Evaluating A Good Candidate For Their Organization

Structured Interviewing Analysis There are many different interviewing processes that companies use to determine who qualifies as a good candidate for their organization. Interviewers must be knowledgeable in their career and prepare a unique set of predetermined questions that appertain to what the company is looking for in future employees. In a thorough search about structured interviews, also known as a â€Å"standardized† interview, several components and coding words attracted more attention than orders. Structured interviews are also identified in research as â€Å"situational†, â€Å"behavioral†, â€Å"patterned†, â€Å"systematic†, and â€Å"structured situational.† Structured interviewing is believed to be the better choice of interviewing styles, as†¦show more content†¦In unstructured interviews it is easy to stray from important questions because the conversation can go anywhere and is very informal. The author of struct ured interviews, discusses the structured interview process from beginning to end, to include preparation prior to the interview and different types of questions that should be asked to the applicant. He believed that all questions that pertained to the job should be asked first, such as assessment, assumption, and detailed organizational inquires. Those questions should hold priority over more relaxed questions pertaining to the individual. Research has taught human resource students, employees, and many other people that there is a lot to be learned about the interview process still. Heroic stories in English literature have unmatched fame because of the traits that the heroes exude. Both Sir Gawain, from â€Å"Sir Gawain and the Green Knight† translated by Marie Borroff, and Beowulf, from Beowulf translated by Burton Raffel, serve as heroes in different times of Medieval English Literature. Many of the basic principles that describe heroes in Medieval Literature are seen in both of these characters even though they were written in different times. There are distinct similarities, differences, and also a progression of what the hero was in English literature, between Sir Gawain and Beowulf. Sir Gawain and Beowulf both represent the greatest and most basic necessities of heroes in Medieval Literature, which shows numerous similarities between each hero. Corresponding increase in cost and the relationship between profits and cost reveal that the profit before tax was almost half (5. 7) to 10. 9 in the year 1996 and this relationship is maintained in 2003. On the other hand the operating profit have not shown a considerable growth in comparison to the tax rates as shown by the relationship between G. P ratio and profit after tax. In the year 1999 it was 1/3rd to the G. P ratio but has increased to come up with ? of the G. P ratio. This indicates that the company is trying to improve its profit by maintaining its cost but the increase in taxes has jeopardized the efforts and consequent increase in profit after tax has not been obtained. The market price of the shares has grown rapidly and has become twice as compared to the last year, which indicates people’s confidence. This is indicted by the reduction of only 0. 99% in the sale of year 2000 from previous year where as there is a reduction of 2. 1 times in the sale to fixed asset turnover ratio. This acquisition by the company in the year 2000 was made to cope with predict future growth. In other years the fixed asset turnover ratio is increasing due to increasing sales and there is usual acquisition of fixed assets. In the case of the inventory turnover ratio there is a constant increase in the figures over the years. The company in warehouses does not hold idle stocks thus reducing the stock holding cost. Vietnam War To many, the Vietnam War symbolizes controversy, myth and question in America. There are many events that made Americans wonder what reasons we had for putting our troops and families in Vietnam. Up till that point, many other Americans had never questioned the acts of the American government and armed forces. Issues dealt with in the Vietnam War showed great impact on the American people, particularly the students. American involvement started off very low key. Two marine battalions landed in Da Nang on March 8, 1965 (Doyle, Lipsman). They were not fighting a war yet, though a war was going on in the very country that they were in. Their job was to merely protect an air field in Da Nang, not look for trouble or initiate any kind of war tactics. But soon, holding off the enemy was not so easy for the American soldiers, and more troops were sent in. This continued on, and when May rolled around there were 46,000 American Troops in Vietnam (Doyle, Lipsman). It was at this time when American troops were then given the "permit to use more active defense," and soon after, the number soared to 82,000 American troops in Vietnam (Doyle, Lipsman). From there, the American defense quickly turned into an offense, and transportation flights turned in to rescue missions. This was about the time that Americans at home began to become worried that the war in Vietnam was getting out of hand. Small protests broke out amongst college students across America, but these began to become very serious. On April 17, 1965 The Students for a Democratic Society organized a national protest on the steps of the capitol in Washington D.C. (Doyle, Lipsman). Television coverage enraged people by misleading facts and disturbing war images of troops killing women and children. Frustration in America grew and riots and protests got out of hand as no questions seemed to be answered. Students protested and gathered, building rage against the war spurring events like the Kent State Massacre. The Kent State Massacre is named after a calm protest uprooted when guards killed and wounded students by opening fire on a mass of students as they gathered on the Kent State campus (Encarta). Events such as the Kent State Massacre enraged Americans more than ever causing violent riots and outbreaks. Meanwhile, America's position in Vietnam worsened. More and more were sent, and more and more troops were killed. America's great offense was tattering down and guerrilla warfare on unfamiliar terrain hampered soldier performance. The war then quickly switched over and put more weight on air attacks and bomb raids. Helicopters became America's best friend as they were a brand new invention that had not previously seen much use. The helicopter made landing and exiting in rough terrain easier than any other method seen before by the United States military. Other weaponry made its debut in the Vietnam War. Spurred from the second world war, where tanks were introduced, the anti-tank missile launcher was a key weapon for all countries to develop. The Vietnam War was the first war that the anti-tank missile launcher was effectively used. Standard guns also were changing; they become lighter in weight, more accurate, and able to function better with less maintenance and malfunction. All of these new, and newly perfected, weapons made the Vietnam War an unfamiliar territory for everybody as the death toll soared through the roof. More troops were sent, more black troops. Racism raced through the veins of many white Americans at this time, and blacks still felt discriminated against by the government and the people of America. All of this as more black troops were being put on the battle front to fight. Black gangs erupted and dodged the draft, became violent, and held to one another very closely. This was the first sign of gangs in America, as we see gangs today. Many black Americans did not understand why they were being force to fight and die for a country that hated them. They felt as if they were being sent in place of whites, but in fact only 12.5% of all troops in Vietnam were black, and it was merle stretched facts and media influence that caused the black eruptions in America (Westmoreland, VHFCN). Nestle is a multinational company, and therefore has a competitor as well in this global market. A main competitor of Nestle at this time is Kraft, which has recently taken over Europes No.1 Cadbury Company also. You can see from their attitude and sense of responsibility that how much they are concern for their people. Whatever Nestle is today, it gives all this credit to its people because without them they wouldnt have come so far. Therefore taking in mind their employees ideas and discussions, Nestle today has resulted into improved Company overall. Therefore, Nestle believes in; High Performance High Involvement High Commitment. 10. My views on Nestlà ©s SHRM According to me I think that Nestle has done a great job in meeting its strategic HRM. This is because Nestle has successfully linked its HRM with its strategic goals and objectives in order to improve its business performance and long-term customer relationship. The company has aligned its HR strategies with its business goals, through which it achieved its core values. It kept its employees and customers satisfied by looking after their needs and requirements. Nestle totally achieved its strategic HRM by meeting its objectives which were; Market its Companys products in such a ways, which links with its customer needs and lifestyle. Everywhere in the world, every company runs its own training and development methods, such as; classroom courses, e-Learning, etc. Therefore, Nestle also got its own training and Development procedure, which is as follows; Nestle provides the following- Literacy training-to upgrades essential literacy skills, especially for workers who operate new equipment. Nestle Apprenticeship Programs. Local Training Programs-on issues ranging from technical, leadership, and communication and business economics. My views on Nestles Training process According to me Nestle is not doing a good job in its training and development department, therefore with the changing time it should also be changed and improved. By doing this it will help Nestle to improve their business productivity and growth. Therefore, a special attention should be paid towards the training process of employees, so that the company performs well in the long run. My recommendations In todays time it is very important that training practices should be changed as the business strategy changes. Therefore you should always keep in mind few things when you are developing a training strategy, such as; Always recognize the skills and abilities needed by employees. Then have an outline which will describe that how your investment in training will help in meeting business goals. Finally, execute the plan you made and monitor the progress that it resulted into (tutor2u 2009). In case of small scale organization, training can be given by a supervisor or a skilled man, whereas in large organizations, there should be a full time training officer on training department for the employees. The training methods that I would recommend for Nestles are as follows; Training on the job By this I mean that training should be provided at the work place. For example; A proper instructions and demonstration should be provided to the trainee regarding their job. A special coaching should be provided to employee. By this I mean that there should be close working relationship between an experienced employee and the trainee, so that trainee can learn and adapt to new surroundings. A job rotation should be done regularly. By doing so a trainee will learn and experience different task and activities that are going on in the organization. Advantages of- on the job training Its very cost effective for the company. It seems to be very productive, because while learning they are also working. By having someone standing on the top, give employees more confidence, because they know they are doing good job. Training off the job Off the job training means that employees have to take training by staying away from work place. This is a very formal kind of training provided to employees. Off the job training can either be provided by the companys training department or through external provider. The examples of off the job training are as follows; First one is Day release. It is when employee has to take some time out from the routine working hours and have to attend training centre The other one is that you have to take evening classes outside the work premises and hours. Then you have sandwich courses, where the employee has to spend around 6-9 months in college before joining work. Advantages of off-the-job training: A special outside trainer is appointed by the company, so they save money by not hiring trainer on fixed salary. Employee can pay his full attention on training rather than working and getting distracted. The employees will get opportunity to meet other business employees who are there to learn the same techniques. Demonstration It is one the most effective training skills. In this trainer show trainees how they have to work and perform their task. In some cases trainer should include the trainees in his demonstration so that they could feel and observe the work practically rather than just looking at it. Therefore, Nestle could provide any of above training options that I have recommended. By doing so, it will improve its productivity, because now employee will better understand their work. My Recommendations Therefore, according to me they should have a totally new recruitment process, which should be like; The company should first identify the vacancy, under which the requirement should be; what posts to be filled, number of persons required for the post, what duties they have to perform, and finally the qualifications required for hiring. Should prepare the job description and the person with what kind of skill is required for that job. Should give advertisement on the TV, Newspaper etc mentioning the skills they looking for. From the response that came in, Nestle should short list the people who best fit the job description (Recruitment 2007). Then the company should arrange the interview with the chosen candidates. Finally they should conduct the interview and get back to them with their final decision. After this the recruitment process should be immediately followed by the selection process. Therefore, employees should be well trained and educated with the changes in the market and organization. And this can be done by having open-end discussions in meetings. Effective Training and Development: At Nestle most of the trainings are done by in-house trainers. But with the changing time they should call external trainer for specialized training. Besides this Nestle should also have training abroad program, so that employees get the feel of global market by working outside. Entrepreneurship strategy: Every employee needs to be an independent entrepreneur, who can generate ideas and bring them to reality by using the existing resources and support of the organization to create innovative and creative products and services. Recruit purposefully In todays time when most of the organizations are firing people you should have more recruitment going on for the search of talented people. So its a great time for savvy companies to hire talented people who have been down-sized by other organizations. This will give advantage to Nestle in coming years. 13. Conclusion Thought Nestle did everything that it could to survive in todays competitive environment. But this competition will never stop and will get more intense with the time passing by. Therefore, beside my recommendations in its HR strategies, it should also pay attention to its VRIO approach). This is the approach which I think is very much required in todays time and changing environment. Its because if NESTLE will keep up with its VRIO structure it will be unique and different than others, therefore will face less competition in the market. How can it do this? Answer to this is by maintaining its VRIO (Valuable, Rare, Inimitable, and Organized) structure, which is as follows; Valuable A resource is valuable if it helps the organization meet an external threat or exploit an opportunity. If a resource helps bring about any one of these four things then it is valuable: Efficiency, Innovation, Quality and Customer responsiveness. Valuable resources of Nestle are: Human Resources Brand Name Research development processes Rare A resource is rare simply if it is not widely possessed by other competitors. Rare Resource of Nestle: Its uniqueness in Infant food products Processes and ingredients they use are rare. A resource is inimitable and non substitutable if it is difficult for another firm to acquire it or a substitute something else in its place. This is probably the toughest criteria to examine because given enough time and money almost ANY resource can be imitated. Therefore, one way to think about this is to compare how long you think it will take for competitors to imitate or substitute something else for that resource and compare it to the useful life of the product. Inimitable resources of Nestle are: Corporate Culture Values followed at Nestle Reputation Organized A resource is organized if the firm is able to actually use it. However, if you analysis does turn up a valuable, rare, and inimitable resource that the firm is not taking advantage of, then the resources of the firm are not said to be organized.

Richard Jordan Gatling was born in January 1818 in Winton North Carolina, and died at the age of 85 in 1903. Gatling's career as an inventor began when he assisted his father in the construction of machines for sowing cottonseeds, and also for thinning cotton plants. He spent a lot of time in the fields with his father who helped him build some of his inventions. Richard Jordan Gatling was a medical doctor with numerous patents for his farm equipment inventions. To his credit he came up with the famous 1862-model Revolving Battery Gun, that is now referred to as the Gatling gun. The 1862-model was one of the first reliable Revolving guns, but still had a few problems that needed to be fixed. Richard was not the first to manufacture a multi-fire weapon, but his was the first multi-fire gun used in war because of its fast, rapid fire, and ease to use. Major General Ben F. Butler purchased 12, 1862-model gatling guns for $1000 each and used them successfully at the battle of Petersburg in 1863. In 1865 Gatling's improved model, the 1865-gun was tested by the Ordnance Department. One of the changes between the improved Gatling gun and the old one, was that the new weapon used rim fire copper-cased cartridges instead of the steel-chambered paper kind. Though this model did not see service, it was adopted officially in 1866. The military was so pleased with the performance of the Gatling gun that it has been used in every battle since it was invented to this day and has been continuously upgraded and improved. Having received government approval, Gatling began to sell his guns throughout the world. This was a big mark in Richards’s future, he had gone from working in the fields to developing a gun that is used throughout the military of the world. The gun was a hand-crank-operated weapon with six barrels revolving around a central shaft. Having a gun that revolves was very difficult because the barrels would not always line up correctly when being fired. The original gun was actually designed to fire the standard military issue paper cartridge of the day, .58 caliber. A .58 caliber bullet has a diameter of an inch and is capable of damaging anything it hits. The paper cartridge was placed inside a steel or brass chamber with a percussion nipple on the back end just like the muzzle loading rifles and pistols of there time.

Philosophy Does God Exist

God: Does He Exist? Philosophy is a subject that can take many twists and turns before it finds an answer to a general question (Wippel, Wolter 335). God is real to many, but not real to others. Some believe that there is sufficient evidence such as the earth. The earth is the perfect size, if the earth and the atmosphere were any smaller, life on earth would be impossible.Then again, because of this idea some believe that the earth was created by a big explosion called the big bang theory which created our planet: because of this we will examine Aquinas on the existence of God while Kant will explore God’s non existence to the extent of being mortal. St. Thomas Aquinas has written several important works over time. There were four works: The Disputed Questions on the Power of God, Exposition of Dionysius on the Divine Names and Disputed Questions on Spiritual Creatures (Medieval Philosophy).Most of Aquinas's works have been written to try to prove the existence of God. Aquina s always has been a firm believer that everything has to have a creator and the only possible solution would be something called God. It is with this idea that Aquinas's Third Way was written. Aquinas says that if everything were mortal, then nothing could exist at present. This can be translated to mean that if all mortal things have to stop existing then there can't be anything which exists today (Medieval Philosophy).Aquinas believes that it takes a living presence to help create other living things in order for them to live also. This means that there must have been something which existed through eternity to help create many living things which exist today. Aquinas believes that something created life throughout time in order for things to be living today. He says this thing must have existed from the beginning and that it must still exist now (Medieval Philosophy). His belief is that living things and non-living things have lived through eternity with the help of a higher, mor e powerful presence, such as God.He also says that if it that were true that nothing existed at one time, then it would be impossible for anything to begin to exist again, which means that nothing could exist now, which is obviously false (Medieval Philosophy). We see that usual bodies work in the direction of some goal, and do not do so by chance. Most natural things lack knowledge. â€Å"But as an arrow reaches its target because it is directed by an archer, what lacks intelligence achieves goals by being directed by something intelligent†.Therefore some intelligent being exists by whom all natural things are directed to their end; and this being we call God. â€Å"It is impossible for anyone to logically believe that things such as rocks, trees, and water can exist without there being a creator† (Medieval Philosophy). It is for this reason that Aquinas believes that God was the only thing that existed then, so therefore he must have been the one who created everythi ng. This theory does prove that something had to exist from the beginning.The Causal Principle is the thought that every contingent being has a cause of its being and that it lies at the heart of the argument. Kant always contends that the cosmological argument, in identifying the necessary being relies on the ontological argument, which in turn is suspect. (Existence of God) According to Kant, survival is not a predicate, a asset that a thing can either have or lack. (Existence of God) When people declare that God exists they are not saying that there is a God and he possesses the land of existence.If that were the case, then when people state that God does not exist they would be saying that there is a God and he lacks the property of life. â€Å"They would be both affirming and denying God’s existence in the same breath† (Existence of God). Rather, suggests Kant, to say that something exists is to say that the idea of that thing is exemplified in humanity. Existence , then, is not a substance of an object possessing material goods, life, but of a thought equivalent to something in the world. â€Å"To see this more clearly, suppose that we give a complete description of an object, of its size, its weight, its color, etc†. Existence of God) If we then attach that the item exists, then in asserting that it exists we put in nothing to the impression of the thing. â€Å"The article is the same whether it exists or not; it is the identical size, the similar weight, the matching color, etc† (Existence of God). The fact that the thing exists, that notion is exemplified in humanity, but does not alter anything about the theory. To assert that the article exists is to say something about the human race, that it contains something that matches that thought; it is not to say anything concerning the thing itself.If Kant is right in his outlook that life is not an asset of matter, then it is impractical to evaluate a God that exists to a God th at does not. On Kant’s observation a God that exists and a God that does not exist are not the same. â€Å"A God that exists is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, etc† (Existence of God). â€Å"A God that does not exist is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, etc† (Existence of God). Both are the same. Aquinas’s theory is more realistic to me. Everything was created for a reason and has to be here for a reason.First, Aquinas believes that something created life throughout time in order for things to be living today. He says this thing must have existed from the beginning and that it must still exist now. It may be religiously reassuring to believe in the existence of a higher authority, but there is no indisputable proof to suggest that God was ‘the cause' of everything, hence proving His existence. Relative Error Definition (Science) Relative error is a measure of the uncertainty of measurement compared to the size of the measurement. Its used to put error into perspective. For example, an error of 1 cm would be a lot if the total length is 15 cm, but insignificant if the length was 5 km. Relative error is also known as relative uncertainty or approximation error. Reasons for Relative Error Relative error compares a measurement to an exact value. The two reasons for this error are: Using an approximation instead of real data (e.g., 22/7 or 3.14 instead of pi or rounding 2/3 to 0.67)Imprecise measurement due to instrumentation (e.g., a ruler measuring to the nearest millimeter) Relative Error Versus Absolute Error Absolute error is another measure of uncertainty.
